Nowadays, Sustainable water resources management and environmental protection have become critical global challenges due to rapid urbanization, climate change, population growth, and industrial development, all of which are placing increasing pressure on water systems worldwide. These changes are significantly impacting hydrological processes, water quality, ecosystem health, and socioeconomic development, while creating unprecedented uncertainties and risks. Complex interactions between water resources, environmental systems, and human activities have led to issues such as water scarcity, pollution, extreme hydrological events, ecosystem degradation, and water-related conflicts, which affect agriculture, energy production, urban development, and public health. Addressing these challenges requires innovative scientific research, advanced technologies, and integrated management strategies.
Over the past 8 years (2018–2025), the WREM series of conferences has established itself as a key global platform for interdisciplinary exchange in water resources and environmental management. 2025 The 8th WREM 2025 has been successfully held as an on-site conference on Zhenjiang, jiangsu, China. This year, the 9th International Symposium on Water Resources and Environmental Management (WREM 2026) will be held from September 18 to 20, 2026, in Shanghai, China.
WREM 2026 provides a platform for researchers, engineers, policymakers, and practitioners to share knowledge, discuss emerging issues, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration for sustainable and resilient water and environmental systems.
The conference will focus on seven core themes:
smart water management and digital hydrology, sustainable water resource monitoring, water pollution and emerging risks, climate resilience and ecological restoration, marine and coastal governance, the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) nexus and low-carbon development, and interdisciplinary collaboration in water governance. Topics will include digital twin systems, emerging pollutants, nature-based solutions, blue carbon ecosystems, and cross-sectoral synergies.
We look forward to your participation in WREM 2026 as we explore solutions to global water and environmental challenges and promote long-term international cooperation for a sustainable and resilient future.
